Our Story
I'm a documentary filmmaker. She's a homemaker. I spend my time chasing real stories. She spends her time making sure our home runs on care and common sense. When life slowed down, we finally had time to look closely at what we were eating.
So we started reading labels.
And what we saw didn't sit right.
"Healthy" food that most families couldn't afford. Products that looked clean on the front but hid long, confusing ingredient lists at the back. Imported trends dressed up as nutrition. Nothing that felt like the food we actually grew up with.
We grew up eating simple, honest things. Roasted nuts. Dates. Oats. Grains our parents trusted without overthinking. No marketing language. No exaggerated claims. Just real ingredients that did what they were supposed to do.
That's when we asked ourselves one question if we can't feed this to our own family with full trust, why would we sell it to someone else?
That question became our rule.
Every ingredient has to earn its place. If it doesn't serve a purpose, it doesn't go in. No refined sugar hiding behind smart names. No fillers. No shortcuts to protect margins.
In the beginning, it was small batches and late nights in our own kitchen. Adjusting recipes. Tasting, changing, starting again. It wasn't glamorous. It was slow. It was personal.
But it felt right.
We didn't want to build a "premium" brand that only certain people could afford. We wanted to build something families like ours could buy without hesitation — food that feels safe, tastes good, and doesn't ask you to choose between health, price, and trust.
Today, Yolo Roots is still women-led. Still made in our own unit. Still held to the same standard we set on day one.

The brand has grown. The rule hasn't.
We didn't start Yolo Roots to build just another food business. We started it because we were tired of compromising — and we believed real food, done honestly, could be enough.
We're still proving it. One honest pack at a time.
